Continually Responding to the Child Care Needs in the Community
June 1976 – Mt. Olive Day Care Center founded and incorporated as a result of a needs assessment survey conducted by volunteers in the community.
November 1978 – Center opens its doors with 3 Preschool children at Abiding Peace Lutheran Church in Budd Lake in response to a critical need for affordable quality child care. Soon at capacity of 25.
November 1982 – Center moved to Flanders School to expand Preschool Program.
September 1983 – After-Kindergarten Program began adjacent to Preschool Program at Flanders School.
September 1985 – In response to a request of Mt. Olive Township Board of Education and the Superintendent of Schools, a centralized After School Program opened at Tinc Road Elementary School for K-6th graders.
September 1986 – Due to increased need, a second After School Program opened at Mt. View Elementary School to serve both Mt. View and Mt. View North students.
September 1987 – A third After School Program opened at Sandshore Elementary School.
September 1988 – A Centralized Before School Program began at Mt. View School.
September 1992 – A new Before School Program opened at Tinc Road School. A separate Mt. View North After School Program began next to the one at Mt. View School.
September 1993 – Before Kindergarten Program started at Flanders School.
September 1993 – School Vacation Child Care Program initiated at Mt. View School for all Elementary School age children.
December 1993 – Mt. Olive Child Care was awarded accreditation from the National Academy of Early childhood Programs, a division of NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) for meeting top quality standards in the Preschool and School Age Programs.
February 1994 – Inclement Weather Child Care began for school age children at Flanders School.
July 1994 – Off-site Summer Camp Program began at Mt. View North School due to increased needs for service for school age children through age 12.
July 1995 – Community-Based Parent Education Program began in response to significant problem of child abuse and neglect in Morris County.
September 1995 – In response to the community’s need for quality, affordable child care for the very youngest children, a new Infant and Toddler Child Care Program opened in the child care wing of the Flanders United Methodist Church for 6 week to 3 year old children.
October 1995 – A Before School Program opened at Sandshore School.
June 1996 – Summer Camp Program for School Age Children expanded to meet growing needs.
July 1997 – Re-accreditation awarded to Mt. Olive Child Care & Learning Center for continuing to meet top quality standards in the Preschool and School Age Program and for attaining standards in the new Infant and Toddler Program.
November 1998 – New After School Program opened at the Chester M. Stephens Middle School.
May 1999 – Mt. Olive Child Care & Learning Center was awarded a fourth year merit extension of NAEYC accreditation for its excellent record of consistently maintaining a high quality program for children.
January 2001 – Middle School After School Program became Middle School Leaders Club, as it moved into the new Mt. Olive Middle School.
September 2001 – Re-accreditation awarded to Mt. Olive Child Care & Learning Center for continuing to meet high quality, nationally recognized standards in the Infant & Toddler, Preschool, and School Age Programs.
April 2002 – Mt. Olive Child Care & Learning Center celebrates its 25th Anniversary of service to the community.
April 2003 – Mt. Olive Child Care & Learning Center was awarded a fourth-year merit extension of NAEYC accreditation for continuing to maintain high quality program.
December 2003 – NAEYC accreditation was extended to 12/31/2006.
January 2004 – New Teen Mentoring Program was implemented: involving high school and college students who completed 12 hours of mentor training and subsequently were matched with younger students/mentees who attend the After School Programs in the Mt. Olive Township Public Schools.
September 2004 – Before School Program at Mt. View Elementary School was expanded due to increased needs of families in the community.
September 2005 – Expansion of After School Programs at the 4 elementary schools in Mt. Olive Township due to increased need and grant partnership with New Jersey After 3.
September 2006 – Opened renovated, former library building in Budd Lake as a new facility in which the Preschool/Before & After Kindergarten and Infant & Toddler Programs are consolidated. Expanded services for children. Expanded services for more parents enrolled in free Parent Education Program.
September 2007 – Expanded services for more parents enrolled in free Parent Education Program
January 2008 – Mt. Olive Child Care & Learning Center was awarded NAEYC re accreditation in the revised, rigorous accreditation system for continuing to demonstrate high quality programming and services.
August 2008 – National After school Alliance (NAA) Accreditation was earned by each of Mt. Olive Child Care & Learning Center’s Before & After School Programs in the 4 elementary schools in Mt. Olive Township (Mt. View, Tinc Road, Chester M. Stephens, and Sandshore Schools) and the Mt. Olive Middle School After school Program for meeting 144 standards and 36 “keys” in quality areas.
September 2009 – Expanded collaborative programs with the Mt. Olive Middle School.
September 2010 – Incorporated additional literacy education and family assistance through Family Reading Program.
March 2012 – Mt. Olive Child Care & Learning Center’s School-Age Programs were awarded Accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) for meeting the high quality, “gold” standards of quality programming.
September 2012 – All Day Kindergarten Program implemented to accommodate the growing needs of the community.
November 2012 – Mt. Olive Child Care & Learning Center was awarded re-accreditation from NAEYC for demonstrating consistent compliance with high quality standards; Center accreditation valid through 2/1/18.
September 2013- A Kindergarten Literacy Program, called K-Excel, was started in Partnership with the Mt. Olive Public Schools
September 2014- Mt. Olive Child Care & Learning Center implemented a Transition Kindergarten Program
June 2016 – Center celebrated 40 years of service to the community
June 2017: Earned 4 stars through the New Jersey Quality Improvement Rating System (Grow N.J. Kids) for high quality programming
January 2018: Re-accreditation awarded from the National Association for the Education of Young Children for continuing to meet high quality standards in all of our programs.
April through June 2020: The Center continued to serve children of essential workers by obtaining an Emergency Child Care license during the pandemic.
June 2021: Grow NJ Kids awarded Mt. Olive Child Care & Learning Center Provisional 4-Star-Rating (re-rating during the pandemic) for continued compliance with high quality standards in Early Childhood Education.
February 2023: The Center earned reaccreditation from NAEYC for a term of 5 years (through February 2028).
January 2024: Mt. Olive Child Care & Learning Center was awarded a 4-Star-Rating from Grow NJ Kids for maintaining high quality standards of care and education by the state.
